Tradie Tools Coverage
Being a Tradie is hard work. The sun is a beast, Workplace Health and Safety would have a field day at your job site, and the builder is swearing at you for the 10th time this morning.
The last thing you need to worry about is if your equipment is properly covered when some little ratty breaks into the job site or your work Ute and takes off with your tools.
Some may think, “well, my contents insurance would cover that.”.
Sorry to burst the bubble, but nope! Now you’re scratching your brain to work out how much you’ve just lost and all of a sudden you’re feeling the urge to hit the pub. I’m sure “****!” fell out of your mouth at some point 😂
The insurance you want to have is called General Property Insurance, sometimes referred to as Tradesmen’s Tools Insurance.
It is specifically designed to protect your tools and portable equipment when you’re on-site or in transit, so you’re not left high and dry.
It provides protection against:
- Theft
- Accidental damage
- Loss
Even if you are not at your usual work site, you are covered, which is what you want as a tradie! Here’s the thing though, and we’re looking to you guys with the “She’ll be right” attitude.
Your tools need to be stored securely for claims to be approved. So if you have left your vehicle unlocked all night with your key in the ignition, you’re flat out of luck.
If you have high-value tools or specialised equipment, it may need to be listed individually on your policy. That’s where a broker can help you (AKA Me!).
Here’s the bottom line. If you are a contracted tradie who doesn’t have General Property Insurance, you should consider it!
